Gerry Foran RIP

The death has taken place of Gerry Foran, one of Dundalk’s best known musicians who played with the legendary Paragon 7 showband.

Gerry’s lifelong passion for music began when as a young child he learned to play the guitar with Jim Fergus, a member of the original Merry Macs.

They were enormously successful, playing to packed ballrooms up and down the country and also played in England, Scotland and Germany, playing in the Star Club, Hamburg, made famous by The Beatles.

Joe Martin RIP

Joe Martin who has died at the age of 91 was the 4th highest scorer in the history of Dndalk FC, helping them to a FAI Cup medal in 1952.

But more than that, Joe who was born and lived all his life in Dundalk, was an engaging personality, who acted as MC at a host of charity events in the town and became a very popular presenter on local radio, hosting music of his own choice that he selected to match the profile of his audience.
