There are many traditions associated with St Stephen’s Day From racing and football to turkey sandwiches.
One that has been a fixture locally now for many years has been local man Conor Hughes’ annual December 26th fundraiser on Blackrock beach for his Cross Cause charity.
This year Conor has outdone himself by acting as King Neptune. Since 11am this morning he has been perched on top of a whale’s blow hole made out of plastic bottles on the beach in order to raise funds for a new eye treatment clinic in Ghana.
Conor said: “I wanted to do something topical this year. We are lucky to live in such a clean beautiful village beside the sea but many people live in parts of the world which are polluted with plastics. So I wanted to raise awareness and also funds for the Crosscause charity.”
