Maria Christian-Cuche brought Ireland to sixth place at the Eurovision in 1985 when she was the opening act in Gothenburg, Sweden, with her song ‘Wait Until The Weekend Comes’.
Maria, who has been 95% blind since she was 9 years old, devoted her life to raising her five daughters Shannon, Stéphanie, Tara, Molly and Emma, and two sons Emmanuel and Brian.
Now, over 30 years later, Maria Christian is set to audition on the Voice of Ireland, thanks to her children who put her forward for the show.
Maria herself also confirmed the news when she took to her Facebook page, saying: ‘I will soon be singing at the blind auditions for The Voice of Ireland on RTE. Both the judges and the contestant will be blind this time.’
She thanked all of her followers for the support as she makes her comeback on Irish television.
Maria is set to audition before judges Bressie, Kian Egan, Rachel Stevens and Una Healy in the coming weeks on The Voice aired on Sunday evenings on RTE1 at 6.30pm
