Setanta Fundraising Concert in aid of Organ Restoration

[ A+ ] /[ A- ]

On Sunday 10th May at 7:30 pm in the Redemptorist Church Dundalk, Setanta Choir will join the members of St. Joseph’s Senior Choir for a evening of choral and organ music to raise funds for the restoration of the church organ.

The organ of St. Joseph’s was constructed over 120 years ago and although it has had many major overhauls over the years, most recently 40 years ago, it is now again the time for another restoration.

This concert of the combined voices of these 2 very experienced choirs will be an opportunity to hear choral music at its best. The main work on the programme is the much loved choral classic Fauré’s Requiem. Although a requiem, in place of the sombre nature of many requiem’s that had gone before, Fauré’s is noted for its calm, serene and peaceful outlook. When asked about his motivation for writing it, Fauré responded “My Requiem was composed for nothing … for fun, if I may be permitted to say so!” This requiem is often referred to as a ‘Lullaby of Death”

The concert will feature other well know pieces such as ‘The Easter Hymn’ ‘Va Pensiero’ and Schubert’s Ave Maria. Trevor Clarke, organist at St. Joseph’s will also give a performance on the church organ.

Ticket’s €15, student’s and children €5 are available from the reception in St. Joseph’s, online at www.setantachoir.com or on the door.
