Tain March Festival 1st – 2nd June.

[ A+ ] /[ A- ]

You are invited to join in with the Táin March Festival and walk in the footstep of Queen Medb’s army as it concludes in Dundalk this weekend.

Now in its ninth year, the Táin March Festival was established in 2011 as a community walking festival to celebrate and promote the epic tale of the Cattle Raid of Cooley.

You are invited to join the group at Oriel Park at 12:30pm where families are encouraged to get involved and will receive face painting and costumes before meeting Queen Maeve and becoming part of her warrior army.

The March then departs Oriel for the Market Square where the great warrior Cuchulainn and his army will be waiting at approximately 2pm. There MAD Youth Theatre will re-enact the famous battle scenes from the Táin. This is not to be missed as Cuchulainn takes on Maeve’s warriors in single combat battles. The event is followed by the Land of Legends Festival which will provide a whole range of music and activities on the Market Square.

On Sunday June 2nd the March will depart the Lumpers in Ravensdale at 9am and will walk over the Cooley Mountains, through Maeve’s Gap and finish in Bush at 3pm. Take in the spectacular views from the top of Maeve’s gap where she led her army into Cooley. At Bush the Cooley Warriors will be out in force to protect the Brown Bull from Maeve and there will be music, dance and refreshments.
