Dundalk Singing Circle are starting a new weekly session in Toale’s Bar, Crowe Street, starting this Wednesday, April 16, and all singers are welcome to go along.
‘All singers are welcome, especially traditional singers, but we won’t turn anyone away!’
‘We have around twelve to 14 singers and we’d like more and if people playing a musical instrument as well they’re welcome,’ said Henry who plays the guitar.
Henry and Mick Dunne, a Dubliner now living in Silverbridge, have been instrumental in getting the singing circle off the ground and are looking forward to the group expanding in Toale’s which is run by local musician Pearse McMahon. As the former Mark’s Bar, it holds a unique place in the history of traditional music in Dundalk.
‘People from all over the world are welcome,’ says Henry. ‘We’ve had a Portuguese guy singing traditional Irish songs as well as a Dutch girl married to an Italian who both play and sing.’
